A few controls. Your rhythm.

Start and stop

Tap Play to start the metronome and tap it again to pause. Audio can continue after you switch apps or lock the screen. Calls and disconnecting headphones pause playback.

Set your tempo

Use the − and + buttons for one BPM steps. Tap the large tempo number to enter 20 to 300 BPM. You can also drag the tempo number vertically. Tap TAP repeatedly to estimate a tempo from your tapping.

Meter and subdivisions

Meter controls the beats per bar and the beat unit. The BPM follows that selected unit: in 6/8, each main click is an eighth note. Subdivision adds two, three, or four evenly spaced clicks per beat.

Sound and volume

Open the sound controls next to Play. Choose Studio, Wood, or Soft; set the volume; and turn the first-beat accent on or off. Bluetooth devices can add audio output latency.

Dynamic Island and Live Activities

On supported devices, starting playback can show the current BPM and meter in a Live Activity. You can stop playback from its expanded controls. Live Activities must be allowed in iOS Settings. The system controls their display; the audio engine determines the musical timing.
